Early Life and Marriage  

Bucy Radebe, born Phumulani Radebe, is a South African gospel singer from Maboloka in the North West Province. She grew up in Soshanguve and now lives in her matrimonial home in Rustenburg.

Bucy is married to Thapelo Thoboke, her executive producer and manager. The two met in 2018 while she was working as a backing vocalist, and they went on to build her music career together.

Musical Beginnings and Vocal Development

Her musical journey began in primary school, where she sang in the school choir. She continued singing throughout secondary school before joining the youth choir at AFM House of Praise in Mabopane. She also performed with Kopano Chorus, gaining further choral experience.

In 2008, Bucy joined Opera Africa, where she performed in productions such as Aida, La Bohème, and Carmen. This experience broadened her musical range and strengthened her versatility as a vocalist.

Breakthrough with Spiritual Encounter

Bucy’s debut live album, Spiritual Encounter, was released in 2020 after being recorded at the Mmabatho Convention Centre in 2019. The album achieved major success, earning more than 60 million streams, multiple awards, and Gold sales status.

Its standout song, “Uzugcin'Impilo Yam’,” reached multi-platinum status and helped expand her audience beyond traditional gospel platforms, leading to bookings at mainstream events.

Continued Success and Live Recordings

She followed her debut with The Grace Encounter Vol. 1 in 2022 and The Grace Encounter Vol. 2 in 2023. Both albums were recorded live at the Sun City Superbowl.

In addition to her solo career, Bucy has worked as an alto backing vocalist for several well-known South African gospel artists.

Recent Career Milestone

Her third live album, Praise and Worship in the Wilderness, was recorded at the Sun City Superbowl in June 2025 and released in October 2025. The project marked another important milestone in her career.

Awards Recognition

• In 2020, Bucy won Best Newcomer of the Year at the Crown Gospel Awards.

• In 2021, she received two honours at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs): Best Newcomer of the Year and Best Traditional Faith Album of the Year.

• In 2026, she won Best Traditional Faith Album of the Year at the SAMAs for a second time, further strengthening her standing in South African gospel music.
